LIBEREC ADULT ENGLISH CONVERSATION GROUP END-OF-THE-YEAR BBQ PARTY

No, they are not singing.

No, Ken's not praying (well, maybe he is!)

No, she's not dancing.

We're enjoying a lively game of marbles.

A garden BBQ at Jarda and Vera's home was a scrumptious way to end the school year.

Pastor Igor with host, Jarda.
We ended with singing English songs learned at the May Day Retreat.

Liberec Adult English Conversation Group June 2009

We finished the second year of an adult English conversation group in Liberec and the first year of English conversation for teachers in Turnov, Czech Republic. On May Day weekend we took these two groups and some Christian pastors and friends on a mountain retreat. There were 35 of us and we had a terrific time sharing life with one another. I wish I had pictures to post, but unfortunately our computer stopped talking to our external hard drive, so we lost our pictures (or at least they are temporarily being held captive. We hope that our son can help us retrieve them).

Following that retreat, we can say that we were no longer just a group but a group of friends chatting in English. At the end of the term in June, a couple, Jarda and Vera, invited us all to their home for a BBQ and a competitive game of marbles.

WE ARE BACK (after a very challenging year)

We are so sorry that it has been a year since we have made any posts. As many of you know, I, Linda, discovered a lump in my breast in the first week of October, 2008. Since then I have had surgery for breast cancer with 7 lymph nodes involved, 8 sessions of IV chemotherapies (over 6 months), followed by 6 weeks of radiation therapy which finished on June 19th. I wish I could say that it is over, but recovery continues. However, I have received excellent care from the oncology department at our local Liberec hospital and continue to be well-cared for. Thank you all who faithfully prayed and supported us through this difficult ordeal.

Throughout it all, Ken managed to continue 5 English conversation groups, organize a retreat for our 2 adult groups, fulfill other outreach requests, maintain our household and nurse Linda through the worst of times. He is a true hero. I was able to participate on a limited basis between treatments as my immunity system allowed.
